💡 Background

Family finances are gaining importance in 2026 because financial decisions in households start earlier (e.g., children engaging with digital pocket-money tools), become more complex (e.g., separation/patchwork families), and may be shaped by new policy debates that require awareness and action from parents. At the same time, different financial realities within families (e.g., mothers’ financial situations) and rising influence from social media make it harder for parents to confidently guide children and teenagers. This thesis maps what is already known about family finances and identifies key gaps for future research.

Potential outcomes:

  • Systematic literature review on family finances
  • Future research agenda: derive 3–5 well-argued research questions and hypotheses from the identified gaps.
  • Study concept: design a feasible experiment (e.g., vignette/online experiment) including a draft setup, key variables/outcomes, and a basic analysis plan.

🦾 Who We Are

The Chair for Strategy and Organization is focused on research with impact. This means we do not want to repeat old ideas and base our research solely on the research people did 10 years ago. Instead, we currently research topics that will shape the future. Topics such as Agile Organisations and Digital Disruption, Blockchain Technology, Creativity and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Business Model Innovation, Diversity, Education. We are always early in noticing trends, technologies, strategies, and organisations that shape the future, which has its ups and downs.

🎓 Profile - what we value

  • Interest and basic knowledge of: Personal finance, financial markets and financial literacy.
  • Organizational skills and proactive communication.
  • Reliable and self-driven working style.
  • Proficient German language skills are preferred for research in the German market.
