π‘ Background
Currently you are still sure that having McKinsey, BCG, Morgan Stanley, or Goldman Sachs on your CV is a safe bet for your career. Or do you have Amazon, Google, Facebook, or Microsoft on it, and this will open you all the doors you want? It is likely, that any of those companies will look great on your CV and might even get you that next incredible interview. But will they be as impressive in the future or will other more prestigious and exciting companies replace them? The same goes for universities. You think Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge are the gold standard. But will they be in 5-10 years? Let us find out together. You can even possibly get access to a unique LinkedIn dataset with the CVs of millions of people.
As there is little to no research on this topic, you will be the explorer. You could do a systematic analysis of CVs of past successful people, and those that currently rising in the ranks. What similarities do you find? What differs? Are there patterns? What skills do they have? What do companies and universities value today? What will they value in the future? A contrarian idea: What would be the CV that is unique and exciting? It does not have Harvard or McKinsey but will stand out and display the skills of the future!
