πŸ’‘ Background

Visibility is a key currency in academia, shaping who gets invited, cited, and promoted. With increasing digitalization, visibility is no longer just a by-product of publications or conferences; it can be actively shaped through deliberate self-promotion (Leonardi & Treem, 2020).

Yet, prior research shows a paradox: while self-promotion can boost careers, women are often penalized for it (Exley & Kessler, 2022). The fear of backlash, being judged as overly self-confident or socially less acceptable, remains a powerful barrier (Rudman & Glick, 2001).

But what happens when women are given a real opportunity to become visible? Do they take it? And if they do, do they communicate differently than men?

To find out, we reached out to scientists across 86 German universities, offering them the chance to submit a professional portrait. The data is in. Now it’s time to analyze it!

Sounds interesting? It is. Want to be part of it? We are looking forward to receiving your applications!

🦾Who We Are

The Chair for Strategy and Organization is focused on research with impact. This means we do not want to repeat old ideas and base our research solely on the research people did 10 years ago. Instead, we currently research topics that will shape the future. Topics such as Agile Organizations and Digital Disruption, Blockchain Technology, Creativity and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Business Model Innovation, Diversity, Education: Education Technology and Performance Management, HRTech, Leadership, and Teams.. We are always early in noticing trends, technologies, strategies, and organizations that shape the future, which has its ups and downs.
