⚗️ Overview
In this project, we are exploring the frontiers of workflow automation and AI-driven support systems. Your work will center on systematically mapping the current landscape of n8n workflows and identifying high-impact opportunities for modular, scalable automation across research and business applications.
You will research, analyze, and document best practices for implementing advanced automations in n8n.io, focusing on AI-powered features and modular app design. These insights will then be validated on one of our a state-of-the-art chatbot prototypes to demonstrate tangible improvements in core features and research support.
Become part of an innovative university project, working alongside fellow students to explore the state of workflow automation and intelligent digital assistants.
🦾Who We Are
Lukas Beckenbauer
PhD Candidate at TUM Chair for Strategy & Organization working AI & Decentralized Systems. Lukas is working on the topics of multi‑agent frameworks, decentralized AI, and blockchain governance. He has a background spanning media studies, machine learning, social science, and philosophy.
Dr. Fabian Ahrens
A postdoctoral researcher at the TUM Chair for Strategy & Organization, Fabian’s academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Groningen and postdoctoral work at Copenhagen Business School. His research centers on organizational behavior, and group dynamics in top management and board settings.
🎯 Goals
We are looking for motivated students ready to drive meaningful change in digital workflows:
- Map and analyze available n8n workflows and automation use-cases across research and organizational settings.
- Identify and document best practices for developing modular, reusable, and scalable n8n apps, with a focus on integrating AI-powered automation.
- Assess the legal and ethical dimension in using AI-workflows in business and research
- Design and implement enhancements to an existing chatbot prototype, testing and validating the impact of advanced automation on user experience and research support.
- Prepare actionable recommendations and documentation to guide future automation efforts.
🎓 Profile
You are:
- Pursuing a degree in Management Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Experience in workflow automation would help. But for us its more important that you look forward to working on complex challenges in a low-code environment.
- Curious about AI-driven automation and chatbot development.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable working as part of a self-organizing student team.
