Abstract 📃
This study explored trends in reskilling and upskilling the workforce. Based on previous research demonstrating the changing workforce and the emerging skill gap brought on by increased and new technology use, as well as the covid-19 pandemic, qualitative interviews with key informants were conducted to reveal (1) What are the most important competencies/skills for future employees (2) Which approaches to reskilling, upskilling, and continuous learning are currently in use? (3) How can organizations foster a learning culture? The study interviewed 12 key informants working in the field of learning and development at technology/internet-based companies in Europe and the United States using a semi-structured interview approach based on the guideline and results of the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs 2020 survey. The study identified key competencies anticipated for the future, key trends in reskilling and upskilling the workforce, and techniques for developing a learning culture at work, paving the way for employees’ continuous learning.
