What should be investigated in the study?
The major goal of this study is to find out, which personality traits are preferential for high employee effectiveness in SMOs?
Are there individuals who are predisposed to work in self-managed organizations? Can personality explain why some individuals feel comfortable in such organizations and others do not? These are the questions that the study aims to answer more precisely.
Who did participate in the study?
The final sample consisted of 114 participants. They were recruited via the online platform Amazon Mechanical Turk. This platform allows researchers to distribute their survey to workers who can perform these tasks.
Participation was limited to residents of the United States of America and participants who had prior work experience.
The sample had an average age of 36.10 years and consisted of 61% men and 39% women.
The survey period was form July until beginning of August 2022.
How did the study proceed?
All data was collected with an online questionnaire and the participants were assured full anonymity.
After completing a personality assessment, the participants were confronted with two scenarios. One scenario was describing a company operating according to the SMO approach and one scenario was reflecting a hierarchically managed company. These scenarios were developed based on theoretical knowledge and in collaboration with experts working in such organizations.
In the last step, the participants were asked to indicate their perceived effectiveness for both scenarios.
