π‘ Background
Developing a fully decentralized, cost-efficient, and permanent solution to store files like documents or videos remains an unsolved challenge in the Blockchain ecosystem. In recent years, various approaches like Layer 2, multi-chain, off-chain, or novel on-chain architectures have been proposed to overcome this obstacle. The goal of this project is to summarize the storage solutions that were actually implemented and are now ready for productive use in decentralized applications. The different concepts shall be compared on the basis of technical and environmental aspects like energy consumption, cost-efficiency, ACID properties, and the degree of decentralization. With support from us, the most promising approaches shall be implemented and tested in a specific storage scenario to evaluate the performance under real conditions.

The Chair for Strategy and Organization is focused on research with impact. This means we do not want to repeat old ideas and base our research solely on the research people did 10 years ago. Beneficial, not a must:
- hands-on experience in the blockchain space (e.g. you have your own wallet, you know what a NFT is
- Development experience, preferably in at least one of JavaScript / Python / Rust
- Basic understanding about the architecture of Blockchain-based systems
