RESEARCH INTERESTS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE
Academia-industry transfer of knowledge
I am interested in academia-industry valorisation of knowledge: How can or should universities best contribute to society? Clearly, universities can make their knowledge available, but many related questions arise on the value, protection, transfer and commercialisation of this knowledge. Often, knowledge is generated and spread through academia-industry collaboration. These collaborations have evolved into networks for research and innovation and from there into eco-system like organic organisations. How should the governance of these eco-systems be organised? And what are successful strategies to develop and operate in these environments?
Interaction between coordination, consultancy and research: experiment and theory
I believe that research, management (coordination), and consultancy on valorisation are intertwined. A pro-active approach to consultancy and management leads to research questions. In the same way, research can be taken beyond theoretical philosophy by pro-active coordination of field experiments. For example, the Ulab project has collected best practices on valorisation (research), that are now to be tested through the implementation of changes in the organisational structure and procedures of the Ulab partners, which are all leading technical universities in Europe (coordination and consultancy).
Current projects
I am currently working on the Ulab project and advising on the governance structure and valorisation activities of the flagship proposal Robot Companions for Citizens.
